August already!! WOW! Time does fly when you're having fun, and even sometimes when you're not! LOL!
For the fun stuff, I can't say enough how much I am enjoying getting to come out to the rural communities a bit more and see people face to face. Krisanne and all her folks at Braveheart in Sitka, it was wonderful to meet many of you ofr the first time and other to see again and catch up a bit.
In the coming weeks I will be in Ketchikan August 11-12 and then in Homer August 17-20. I would love to connect with the community while I am there.
For the not-so-fun, I just found out yesterday that the money we normally apply for from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority to deliver Peer Support Trainings in the years in between the conferences is being recommended for reallocation. In regular terms it is being looked at to be spent in a different way which means AKPSC will not have training dollars to deliver trainings next year unless we can find a different funding stream. If you feel that trainings like Peer Support Worker, Trauma Informed Peer Support are important to the development of the peer community I encourage you to call the Trust on August 26 or 27 and ask the Trustees to continue to fund Peer Support Training and why it is important to you. You will have 3 minutes to talk and you can either go to the public comment session or you can call-in. Unfortunately the agenda isn't posted yet and so I am not sure which day or what time the call-in session will be. You can keep updated by checking the Trust website for general info. I have included links below that will also take you straight to the meeting information and the the guidelines page for more information about calling in (hopefully anyway, I'm kinda new to this blog stuff LOL).
